A coat of paint!
Welcome to my poor taste in color schemes zone! The ones ya see as the main background, sidebars, content, an even links may be different whenever this is being read than when this was written up! An ya wanna know why? Cause thats the way I like it!! Even when my own eyes & taste disagree with the end result! Ya, it takes a couple days for me to get used to the new ones but before long I'm digging 'em!
The biggest factor in me deciding its time for a change is me wanting ta look at something new! An the other main factors a change in season or holiday! Warmer colors for spring? Festive colors for the holiday season? Just makes sense right?? I admit some of my color combos haven't been great and I try an learn from 'em. To the point that since the start of 2016 I've been recording the changes!
The start & end date of each color scheme plus the colors used themselves! In theory I could use it to bring back a scheme I really liked or to ensure I don't use a crappy combo again. Instead its just an archive of old color code o.o; In any case its averaged out to be around 4 orr 5 color swaps a year so far. Oh an I didn't start changing the colors in 2016, it was of course much earlier than that. Talkin' back in the pre-php days when I'd have ta open every single page an edit 'em to change the colors across the site!
The big thing I gotta keep in mind is readability which is why the middle, content, portions just always always some shade of white or yellow. And why text colors always black. That parts not so hard, the sidebars however are a different story. Finding text, link & link mouseover colors to fit the background usually takes a couple of test tries! The main background of empty unused spaceness can pretty much be whatever color, though hopefully it sets the tone and/or compliments the others!
Just remember that even if you're not liking the current choices it could be worse! Imagine red text over a black background, maybe a horrid font choice here & there, and some random midi annoyingly playing in the background!!!
I just do this all for fun anyhow so none of the above really matters~
