Update Log
If for some reason ya wanna 100% this game you've got a long road ahead of you! Longer than any previous .hack game series! While a good chunk of it comes from getting max confidence and job rank ups for every party member, theres still more in store! Some late/post-game party members are gonna get namedropped later on when I get to writing up the Virus Core part of this guide so if anyones still wary of spoilers be on the lookout for that. For now, the basics!

Money!!
Does achieving 100% include having at least 1 of every item? Maybe! Theres 3 super high priced items in the Grand Whales shop that ya may wanna get your hands on. One real fast way of racking up GP throughout the main and post-game is tied to Mistral! She gets passive abilities that increase treasure box drops and how many of an item you get from them. In the post-game ya don't even gotta go around partying with her. You can just copy her Item+ (1/2/3) ability onto Tokio and he'll get 2/3/4 items per treasure box!

To speed things along even further, don't even fight monsters! Pop into the 2020 Free Point area Endless Silvery Return and ignore all enemies as you head to the room with the gate key. In the normal treasure box in that room you'll find Emperor's Soul which sell for a high price at the Grand Whales shop when maxed out. If you've copied Mistral's Item+3 ability AND have her accompanying Tokio you'll get 7 Emperor's Souls! Those will sell for up to 12740 GP! Enter the pause menu, select the stop area playthrough option and get sent back to town. Then re-enter the area with her, re-grab the item, and repeat 7 times for 49 (item cap is 50 so not worth makng an 8th trip) Emperor's Souls which you can then sell for just under 90k GP!

Thats some big money! Of course thats a post-game example and you can't copy abilities until you reach it, but the same idea applies through the course of the main game. Find an easy to reach treasure in an Area you don't have to fight in, bring her along, reap the rewards!

Lucky Animals
- Location: G.U. Free Point
- Area: Falling Asleep Aster's Return
- Notice: Bring a party member with the Animal+ ability

Why farm Lucky Animals? The items they drop (plus one other only bought with Virus Cores) are used to purchase the many Dress Up items! By the time you're likely to set out doing something like this you'll likely have the ability to trade Virus Cores for the items Lucky Animals drop. However if this is being taken on before max ranking party members, thats quite a waste! Especially since they cost valuable M and S cores! Here's how to get it done~

Run right on past the pair of Death Mush's and into the room straight ahead and you'll find two lucky animals! If you're really lucky at least one of them will be a Ganesha, and super lucky if there are two Ganesha! As mentioned M virus cores are quite valuable, and in the same room as the animals is a breakable object which contains an M core! May as well grab that while you're there if ya got space for 'em! After you've gotten what you came for bring up the Start button menu and choose the "stop area playthrough" option to return to town, and repeat! This should take about a minute and fifteen seconds at most depending on what you're after.

Confidence
Increasing this unlocks additional XRengeki bonuses which is nice, especially the Virus Core+ one! Getting everybody to five full hearts will take some doing, and'll predominantly mean running through lotsa Areas with 'em as your teammate. Responding favorably to their Link Judge questions and performing favorite actions probably help, but overall your best bets catching "hearts" during XRengeki's and clearing out Areas enough to earn an overall A or S ranking. Smaller things like responding to their e-mails and including gifts in those also help.

One thing to note is that some party members affection seem to rise even without bringing them along. I noticed this with Subaru and at least one other later character. This almost definitely doesn't apply to everybody (not noticiably at least) or even many of 'em but every freebie like this helps! As an aside the Area mentioned in the Lucky Animal section isn't a bad place for confidence grinding. Xth 1/2 Tokio and and Xth 1 partner don't completely obliterate its baddies. Coupled with the M/N/O virus cores you get there I feel like its got a good time to get ratio.

Titles
- Die!!

Untrained Samurai/Useless Daimyo/Dying General, Chicken Rascal/Death Wish/Death Bringer

Alot of people seem to hate Tokio an want him to die and they're in luck(?) cause three titles require getting him killed 50 times total to unlock. When I went after this in the post-game at a L75 Area it took something like 20 minutes for 10 deaths... so yeah thats fun?? Getting monsters to go after Tokio can kinda be a crapshoot to be honest. By the way if the party member you brought with also dies while Tokio is out, thats Game Over. Any deaths incurred since the last time you saved are wiped.

If Tokio happens to have one of the "Grit Your Teeth" abilities his revival from that won't count as a death. It'll revive him with pretty low HP though so getting a real death after shouldn't be trouble. It'll help to not party up with someone that will offer to heal when he's low on HP cause that will get annoying fast. Party members with Max HP/Defense Up abilities should probably also be avoided in order to help speed things along. Tokio and party members auto-revive after roughly 20 seconds...

Oh and its not just Tokio who needs to die! Gotta have a combined 50 deaths for party members throughout the game for another trio of titles! Some may come naturally throughout the course of the main story since some bosses can be pretty mean, but the bulk will have to be forcibly grinded. Luckily in the post-game you can gain access to a Level 1 party member! It may be cruel but taking them immediately to a L75 Area and watching them easily die over and over again is prolly the most efficient way of unlocking these. Just be sure ta bring plenty of revival items to speed things along, and keep an eye on Tokio's HP. If/when it gets below 50%, heal him while the other party member is out cold, then revive them.

Virus Cores (sampler)
This part of the guide will be for informative purposes and to help along getting everyones (that has one) Xth form Rank Ups in order to unlock their wallpaper which is another aspect of game completion. To go further beyond and rank all 35 characters up to their max is super not recommended!! The story part of the games long over and all challenges with it. "Link Play: Hard" you say? I've beaten it solo at much less than max rank! Use your own discretion/judgement/time as you will.

- Recommended Cheat Ability: Q-Break
- Recommended Team: Tokio Xth Rank 2, Kaede Rank 2
- Location: G.U. Free Point
- Area: Falling Asleep Aster's Return
- Virus Cores: M/N/O

Back here are we? Its a pretty good all around Area for these what I'd call cross-over cores. They'll be used for trading down for other ones and also for crossing the normal to Xth Form rank ups.

2nd room: fill up XRengeki meter
3rd room: break the Urn (M+1)
4th room: ignore monsters and use the warp
5th room: XRengeki Olin Pack, finish off Bug Giga (M+4, N+1)
4th room: fill up XRengeki meter, defeat monsters if desired
6th room: XRengeki Bezel, fill back up (M+3)
7th room: XRengeki Burning Meow, break the Urn (M+1, N+4, O+1)
8th room: XRengeki the Boss (O+4)
Total: 9/5/5

Alternatively in the 7th room XRengeki the Bazuazotto for (M+2, N+1), leading to a 10/3/5 total if you're good on N and want that single extra M. If its N cores you're looking for then some things get flipped around like so:

2nd room: fill up XRengeki meter
3rd room: break the Urn (M+1)
4th room: XRengeki Gob Sherman and use the warp (N+6)
5th room: fill up again
6th room: XRengeki Bezel, fill back up (M+3)
7th room: XRengeki Burning Meow, break the Urn (M+1, N+4, O+1)
8th room: XRengek the Boss (O+4)
Total: 5/10/5

As you can see, depending on the Area, Virus Core farming can be flexible. Also if you're only after Boss cores, then in the case of this Area, you can straight up ignore the first four rooms worth of monsters and just deal with the Bezel (mandatory to end raft segment) the pair in the pre-boss room. In general defeating every monster shouldn't be necessary, just filling up enough so that on the next Unison Attack you can refill it the rest of the way and launch an XRengeki on that same monster. I may have to fiddle with the formatting of this and Area breakdowns to come but for now this is a good idea of what to expect outta VC farming!
