What's a massive multimedia franchise without a trading card game or three? With the original .hack// came Enemy. G.U. brought with it Crimson VS. Lastly, Link debuted with Victory Spark. Sadly only Enemy made it outside of japan which is what I'll be lightly covering here.
Contagion
• The game launched in north america with this set on October 15th, 2003. A little over a month after .hack//Outbreak was released.
• It had 36 (common), 36 (uncommon), 36 (rare), 10 (starter deck premium), and 12 (x-tra rare) for a total of 130 cards.
Distortion
• This was Enemy's first expansion set and was released in January of 2004.
• It had 36 (common), 36 (uncommon), 36 (rare), 10 (starter deck premium), and 12 (x-tra rare) for a total of 130 cards.
Epidemic
• This second expansion cut down the new card amount by 30 and came out in April of 2004.
• It had 27 (common), 27 (uncommon), 27 (rare), 10 (starter deck premium), and 9 (x-tra rare) for a total of 100 cards.
Isolation
• Expansion number three followed the card total of the previous one, but dropped the Starter Decks and were sold as boosters only. It launched in July of 2004.
• It had 30 (common), 30 (uncommon), 30 (rare), and 10 (x-tra rare) for a total of 100 cards.
Breakout
• The fourth and final expansion dropped in October of 2004.
• It had 30 (common), 30 (uncommon), 30 (rare), and 10 (x-tra rare) for a total of 100 cards.
Gift
• This was a limited edition release included two Contagion & two Distortion booster packs and took 6 of Contagions Xtra-Rare cards and replaced their art with character designs based off of .hack//Gift.
• Only 8,000 of these Gift sets were produced and as such signed & numbered certificates of authenticity were included in each box.
• The 6 characters used were Bear, BT, Crim, Mimiru, Sora, and Subaru.
Promo
• A total of 19 cards were given out or awarded at tournaments, promotional events, and at retailers. This makes them extremely rare. Not as in "x-tra rare" designation but the "very few of these cards were produced" rare!
• 4 of them tie into the Contagion set, 5 with Distortion, 2 with Epidemic, 6 with Isolation, and 2 with Breakout.
In total .hack//Enemy had 560 unique cards and 584 total cards. It won an "Origins" award for best new trading card game of 2003. Production of the game ceased sometime in 2005.
