At the start we come upon a pretty shady looking man getting his rear kicked by what seems to be a couple of thugs. The title card follows and we're soon viewing a rush to a hospital. The patient is Mai Minase, the main character of this episode.
"That sound..."
Mai had fallen into a brief coma while playing "The World" but unlike others, she somehow recovered. Her boyfriend Tomonari, the one who invited her to play, would not awaken though. As we follow Mai through her day she encounters the man who was beaten up at the beginning. Turns out he used to work for CC Corp and wants Mai's help in tryinh saving the numerous people who've fallen into comas while playing the game.
Will Mai help this shady man out? Just what is going on inside of "The World"? And what can be done to aid the coma victims from outside of the game?
