Taking place both before and later on partially during .hack//G.U. Vol.1, this series follows the adventures of Haseo, Shino & Ovan of the Twilight Brigade. Many people who jump into the games and ask why Haseo's so angry, would have many of their questions answered here.

Notes:
• This series aired in Japan on Wednesdays in the same timeslot that both SIGN and Legend of the Twilight previously held.
• In Japan, Episode 18 was originally due to air August 2nd, but was delayed a week due to scheduling errors. To make up for the lost airing the final two episodes aired back to back on the same day.
• Roots premiered in the US on November 11th, 2006 at 5 a.m. on Cartoon Network.
• On April 7th, 2007 the series restarted on Cartoon Network from episode one rather than going to episode twenty-two and finishing its initial run.
• June 30th, 2007 was the last date the series ran on Cartoon Network as the following week, its timeslot was taken over by another network. Hence, the final five episodes never aired in the US.
• In the US release, Ep.9's title was changed from "Melle" to "Melee." Ep.14's changed from "Unreturner" to "Lost One."
• Roots was the first anime TV series to air in high-definition.
• The north american release of G.U. Vol.2 included episode 1 of Roots as a bonus. G.U. Vol.3 included episode 6.
• Funimation released a DVD boxset of this series for north america in May 2015.
